  1. Without a doubt, “Understandng Exposure” by Bryan Peterson is a brilliant book for both film and digital. His newest volume has been updated to be geared more towards digital, but regardless, it has the foundations of photography techniques. It goes into the basal technical details with good writing from a knowledgable source. There’s a bit of wit when appropriate, illustrations for demonstration, and open-ended self-assigned projects to give you some practice. This guy knows his stuff, and I recommend it to any budding photographer. You could pick it up on amazon for $10-$15.

  2. I’ve been through a few, and they’re all pretty much the same. My best advice is (because these things tend not to be cheap) to go to the library and pick up one of the newer looking photography how to books. There will probably be a section or two about digital photography and editing, but you really don’t need that.
The important thing is, the techniques involved in photography really haven’t changed for a long time, so practically any book you find will be helpful. Read the whole thing and try things out. One of the best ways to get better at photography is to practice.

  3. The best book to read is the user manual you have got with your camera, as that will tell you everything you will want to know.
Any other book on digital photography will tell you how to use a completely different camera.
If you want to learn then just ‘play’ with your camera and get to know about it.
Also, why not join http://www.redbubble.com/ which is totally free?
People on there are only to willing to help, and you can join in different groups.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

  4. I hate to do this but here:http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_r…
It’s been asked so many times.
But, to answer this again: google Upton and London and any of those books are by far the best. ie: thorough

  5. All of the above, especially the part about your owners manual.
Every brand and model has it’s own little qualities which you need to learn to use your camera to its fullest.
