How Seo Work With Two Related Websites?
Hi,
I currently run and own a sports related website that consists of sports articles, sports directory and a sports forum. I rank well with MSN, Yahoo and for a few keywords with Google. In fact, my site ranks well with yahoo when searching for sports articles; my site in the top 11.
I’d like to keep my current sports site and design the site more for sports articles and directory, since both are doing well.
That being said, I’d like to open up my own sports cards trading shop. I would sell products in an auction format. Visitors would signup for a weekly newsletter that would inform them of new auctions that have been added.
Should I design this sports auction store as another domain name? It would not hurt my search engine placement, penalize or ban me if I run two sports related websites and link them together?
Again, one of the sports sites I own is just a directory, forums and articles. The other would be my very own sports store in the format of auction style.

Questions About Computer/web Programming?
I really want to learn how to code and program in many languages, but I am not familiar with most aspects of the coding languages (except for html, actionscript, and php) and the types of software used to create apps.
I read that visual basics is outdated, and that it’s not recommended to use it, but why does Microsoft have what looks to be a very nice computer/web programming page where you can download Visual Basics Express?
What is the best programming language to begin with? I know html and actionscript and a little php, but I want to learn computer programming.
Could you tell me what each of these programs from Microsoft do?

Seo Software, Are There Any Good Software Around To Help Optimize My Site? Im To Low In The Rankings?
Software that optimizes your website for you is not recommended. If you want software for keyword research & such, that’s a different story.
Different search engines have different criteria for high-ranking websites. I’ll just assume that you want to rank better in Google cuz they’re the biggest.
Google’s big thing is inbound links. Quantity doesn’t matter nearly as much as relevance and quality. Focus on getting one-way links from websites related to yours (topically) and who are in good standing with Google.
I believe that reciprocal links and a spurt of low-quality/questionable quality links still work for Yahoo. I don’t know about longevity with this method, but it worked for me for several years.
MSN seems to pay attention to you after you get some low-quality links from spam-like sites (or submitting your sites RSS feeds), but MSN focuses more attention to your website’s content than the value of inbound links.
However, since there’s a large overlap here on what works & what doesn’t for certain search engines - I would checkout sites like http://seobook.com and some webmaster forums like webmasterworld.com, forums.digitalpoint.com and so forth & listen in on some of the SEO conversations over there.

I just started a new web developer job (my first actually) and the
machine they gave me to use is a Mac. Two days in and I’m running a
Win XP environment on my Mac at work (using VMWare), firstly so I can
use my favourite text editor (ConTEXT) which is only available for
windows and secondly because I’ve never used a Mac before.
But what do you think is the best all round development platform that
I should use as a Web Developer? Using VMWare I have a chouce of
Windows/Linux or the computers native OSX Operating Sytem.
The technologies I mostly use are LAMP technologies, but although I
think that Linux makes a great server OS, I’m just unsure if it cut’s
the mustard as a development environment?

1) a project management application that all three of you can access and update
2) a test environment - for that, I would recommend virtualization so that it doesn’t interfere with your production environment

it’s not that simple. depends on the state of the walls to start with, how much woodwork etc etc. there are too many variables to be able to answer. just get some painters to come and quote. They should do it for free(the quote) if it’s not a huge job.
