To put things in the right perspective -
Consider a biscuit pack, the cover design is a web designer’s job & the biscuit inside is the developer’s job.
What do you buy? What do you pay for?
All the best

If your software question was regarding a car…
A designer would create the body based on user preferences, what sells, and what turns a profit. A web designer makes the car look good and appeal to its audience.
A software person would engineer the engine, transmision, etc. etc., geared around the specs provided by the web designer.
So, the designer makes the car sizzle and sell, and the software person/web developer makes car function. Make sense?

imho this is the wrong way of looking at a career - ie based on what salary/increment levels are today. “hot” job sectors keep changing based on various factors over most of which you have no control. you should look at your own interests and talents and decide what you want to do. web design is a more artistic/creative field, where you have to interact with clients, understand requirements and design web sites. you should be able to listen and understand customers, their customers, trends, etc., and have the creative ability. if you will like this, go for it…..
