sometimes, but not easily
two different disciplines:
painting is free expression;
whereas design is more rigid with rules
I had to take my chalk /watercolour drawing and turn it into lots of little designs for a window. Did this by photocopying the drawing and cutting into various squares,
this ABSTRACTED IT even more
so now have tons of workable designs that can be used for the whole interior of house, client estatic!

Yes. each compliment the other. I do design comic book characters and i paint them. There are people who are designer and there are people who are painters, real artists know from all areas and just apply all the knowledge for the specific job done at the time. if you are going to paint a landscape for example you can let your imagination go (but still use a technique which basicly is a rule to do something = method) and if you have to create a company logo (where u are restricted by what the customer wants) you go by the “rules” of design = method then put your artist’s touch to it.
Nope …i don’t think so…painter are free to express them self… designer are much more restricted and rigid with the rules …they done get to express them self in general…and they use different tools and skills then painters
