hey! so, i got my first canvas and a bunch of paints today.. And i was wondering whats a good subject for me to paint? like other than bowls of fruit? and what would be awesome is a picture of something i coulld replicate! thanks!!(:

Something in 3D to challenge yourself, like an ornament in your home or something that you admire

Your considered an amateur if you have done some painting but are still learning. If you are just starting out with your first canvas and a bunch of paints, you are a beginner. You need to pick something that you like, something you can probably do, and will keep you focused. I’ve noticed that many just starting out and with limited skills tend to gravitate towards abstract painting but i don’t advise going that route.

Find a good color copy of an old master’s painting and copy that. And as an amateur you could probably stand the practice of painting a bowl of fruit. You have to be able to walk before you can run.

Go outdoors and paint the landscape where you live - parks, flowers,trees.
You will learn faster painting from life instead of ‘pictures’.

Go thru magazines and books for pictures that inspire you. Enjoy.
