Fao Painters And Decorators-why Has The White Under-coat I Used Got A Brown Tinge Through It?

It was a brand new tin of paint, brushes were clean, I can’t think why this has happened and want to avoid it on the final coat.

  2. Is it an oil based or waterbased undercoat , if its oil based you have to stir it properly,
Are you painting walls or woodwork??
Ignore the damp answer its not that..

  3. The only thing I can think of is if its oilbase U/C it comes in a metal tin with a metal lid, and somehow some water has got in around the lid and made it a bit rusty.
try pouring some into a paint kettle, or a conatainer, just pour as much as you think your going to need, and give it a good stir, the brown stain should blend away with your stirring.
If not, take it back to where you bought it.
If it had of been an emulsion colour that you had got made up, then you could put it down to the paint was not mixed properely in the shop, that has happened to me a few times, but you just brush it out, or give it a good stir.
But other than what I said above, I cant think what else it could be.
I am a decorator, and I have never known this with any oilbase paint.

  5. if the wood was stained, then you would need a good sealer primer or else the stain will bleed through
