Moving To Canada - Where Are The It Jobs?

My husband and I are planning a move to Canada. We are currently tossing up between Ottawa & Toronto but would consider Vancouver also. My husband is a Web Developer and earns double what i do as a project analyst so we would prefer to move where the most IT jobs exist (within that city). Neither of us speaks any french (we’re starting to learn) so English jobs are obv our only option.
We are also curious about the cost of renting in those cities and about utilities / general living costs.
Its just the two of us….
Any info you can provide would be appreciated
Cheers!

  1. Any of those cities would have IT development jobs. In Toronto, you are looking at rent of at least $1000 permonth in the city
Do you have your immigration papers yet?

  2. Toronto has a vast array of jobs in any field - you will likely have a better chance of getting a job in TO than in Ottawa
In both cities, English is the predominant language, however when you are in Ottawa, you will see the signs in two languages and people do speak more French there than in TO. TO is basically English spoken everywhere you go.
Rent for a one bedroom is in the range of 800 and up, 2 bedroom 900 and up and so on - general living costs probably bus fare (a little over $100 a month for a monthly pass) you have gas and car insurance, you have groceries (about 4-500 a month) and the regular bills
    hope this helps!

  3. I ama former chef and after retiring became a MCSE and A+ certified tech and while Toronto is good and Vancouver fine, Ottawa is down since Dell closed up shop, even consider Calgary and Kitchener Waterloo as potential place as both have large IT industry’s and KW has RIM, Opentext, McAfee and others.

  4. I’d say go after Toronto.
Waterloo would be my option if I were a decent innovator. (AKA Research in Motion Town)
