I Want To Learn How To Be A Pro Web Designer/developer?
I’m 15 (in the UK) and I already know the basics of web design/development. I can write HTML and I know some flash (menus and animation mainly) and I can build a basic website that is just text and images and some flash. But I want to learn how to create advanced websites that require log in and that interact with the user a bit like yahoo answers or blog spot for example. What should I do now
And by the way I would like to go down the self taught route rather than getting taught

I Need To Find A Web Designer/developer Job?
I am looking for a job with either .NET (C#) or even more basic things like just XHTML and CSS.
I’ve been searching job sites for a few days now and I am having trouble finding stuff.
I am rather entry level though, so it’s tough finding jobs. I am looking for full time, part time, or maybe contract work. I can not do internships though.
I am looking on:
monster.com
careerbuilder.com
indeed.com
craigslist.org
dice.com
nettemps.com
to name a few ![]()
Am I missing something? Are there better resources out there? I refuse to pay for a job finding service though.. so keep it free ![]()
Thanks!

What Educational Requirements Do I Need To Become A Professional Web Designer/developer?
I’m currently majoring in nursing, and realized that I hate it. I really enjoy making websites and I would like to major in that instead. I’ve been looking at what employers want from a web designer and it’s usually a Bachelors in Computer Science. But I don’t understand how it all works… Do I get a BS in comp. sci and specialize in Web Design? I just want to know what kind of education I need or what I should be looking for in a school if I want to go into the workforce as a web designer/ developer… Thanks

Web Designer/developer Career?
Okay, so I got into making websites when I was 9. Now I’m 18. I’ve owned a variety of domains, and taught myself HTML and CSS. I need to learn JavaScript, PHP, etc. I am starting college this fall (it’s a 4 year private university), and I am double majoring in web design and journalism.
Here are my questions.
- In four years, if I do all of the work plus extra, is it possible to learn everything about web design/development? Or, is it more of a self-taught thing? No matter what, I am getting a degree, though.
- What is the starting salary for web design?
- How is a typical day spent as a web designer/developer?
- What companies are great to be hired at for web design/development? I’ve always visualized working for Yahoo, but since the company is made up of thousands of employees, that may just be too big for me.
Web design and writing are my passions, so I want a career in that. I know this may sound silly, but I also want my job to have a point. Is web design really helping the world? I want to help the world with the job that I am in.

Can We Make A Living As A Web Designer/developer, Working As Self Employer?
I’d have to agree with David, it is tough as it used to be just build a site and that was it (pre 2000) then the odd site update here and there.
Now you have to have a fair bit of business know how, as some companies will want to hold you accountable for what your doing and see a return on their investment with regards to the website.
Also a lot of businesses will be aware of their standings on the search engines. One wrong move by a web designer and you can be responsible for their site slipping down the rankings or even worse dissapearing completely.
I really don’t want to scare you, but it’s best to know now rather than be sitting in front of a couple of MD’s trying to explain why their site is responsible for a 10% drop in sales, and for a lot of small to medium sized companies these days that 10% is usaually a 6 figure sum.
If you’re just starting out you really need to know your basics, xhtml, css and making sure everything is as standards compliant as you can get it. Then do some reading up on internet marketing / seo.
Once you have that nailed you can then decide which way you want to go with regards to the nice to haves (PHP, Flash, more internet marketing, mobile design, or just web design for the front end stuff etc etc)
As for working self employed, I do exactly that on top of my day job, it’s fantastic when things are going right but you also have to be responsible for any mistakes you make and take care of general day to day business (phone calls, accounts, marketing, meetings etc). It’s very rewarding but can be stressful at times.

In response to your question regarding how long it will take for you to start doing web site for a fee, this depends on how quickly you learn the skills. For starter, you can learn HTML and some javascript. Be sure to get some books (especially those with sample exercises) and read them. After reading them, try to do some of those sample exercises to see how well you are doing. This is a good way to gauge how well you have mastered the skills. Once you think you have mastered the basic skills, you can go to those freelance web site and start bidding on some simple projects. Remember to charge for a lower price just so you are more likely you will get the project if your price is low.
By the way, I am a web developer by trade. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Most Marketable Cms For A Web Designer/developer To Learn?
Which CMS is the most marketable? I’m just getting started in web design, and want to start off by just learning one system (since they seem pretty complex) but I want to figure out which one is the most popular/in demand first. I’m trying to chose between WP, Joombla, and Drupal. Anyone have any ideas?
